Please Get Involved! This initiative can only be defeated if good people take action. Getting the truth out to Missouri voters is essential considering the initiative’s deceptive wording.

Several action items you can follow to get involved.

Call local radio shows and point out the deceptive and misleading wording of the ballot language. The people gathering petition signatures are misleading voters by saying the ballot proposition will outlaw human cloning. While the proposition claims to outlaw reproductive cloning, it will not outlaw human cloning for experimentation and research. Another deceptive argument petition gatherers will make is that the proposition only allows for research using stem cells from cord blood and that no embryos are involved.
Write letters to the editor, including the smaller papers. Letters to the editor are read! Since the news is, in some cases, blacking out our side, we have to bypass the front page editors. Letters and phone calls are good ways to do it.
Ask your pastor to put a notice in the bulletin warning people not to sign the petition and to urge those who think they want to sign to read the actual wording and get all the facts.
If you have the time , pick an hour out of your week when you can distribute the attached flier outside your local library or post office. These are the public places where voters are being asked to “sign a life away.”
Call your local grocery store and shopping mall and tell the manager how deceptive and offensive this cloning petition is. Ask them not to allow anyone to gather signatures for the petition on shopping mall/store property. Call the headquarters for large store chains including Schnucks and Dierbergs. Tell them you object to the petition and find it offensive to be asked to sign a pro-cloning petition on their property.
Buy the DVD, Cutting Through the Spin on Stem Cells and Cloning produced by the Donum Vitae Center for Bioethics and presented by Fr. Tad Pacholczyk, Ph.D., which clearly explains the science and ethics behind cloning in layman’s terms and provides examples of ethical adult stem cell research. Educate yourself, and then educate your family and friends.
Stage a protest and hand out fliers. Draw attention to the controversy about the deceptive wording of this ballot proposition. We don’t want a constitutional right to human cloning in our Missouri constitution.
Contact friends, neighbors, relatives in your church and faith communities. Use the petition drive as an opportunity to discuss this issue with co-workers. Educate everyone about human cloning.
Contact your family and friends across the state. It is likely that the company from Michigan hired to gather signatures will go to the Kansas City area next. We can make it much harder for the petition workers to gather signatures if good people are prepared with the facts and educational material.
